SalsaSalsa music has strong Cuban roots, and has been part of Latin culture for approximately 100 years! We dance this music to an 8-count beat, but we do not typically step on the four and eight counts. There are regional differences to the steps. Since its inception, Salsa has branched out throughout the world. There is of course Cuban style salsa (Salsa Cubana). There is Colombian Style Salsa (Salsa Caleña). But, in the US we primarily dance in a slot (Salsa in line). You can dance Salsa on-1 and on-2. Places like Chicago and New York primarily dance on-2, while LA and Milwaukee typically dance on-1.
Salsa is a fun, sexy and energetic dance. Let us worry about the rules and regional differences, so you can focus on having a great time. Much like Bachata, Salsa is a world recognized dance, and people at most major cities will dance at least one style. |
